Educational Reform For Nigeria

The reform Nigerian education needs can be termed as financial reform.
Government funding of education in Nigeria hass been inadequate. The funding of education is shared amongdifferent levels of government and supplemented by funds from other sources such as business, community organizations and the levies charged on parents. The revenue collected through fees constitute an insignificant proportion of the revenue of the institutions.

Inadequate funding of education has been one of the most significant causes of low quality of education offered at all levels in Nigeria .
Overall , there has been a drop in the fundin level of education in Nigeria.Examples from the recent estimates funding of primary education indicates that funding allocations have been dropped from 1.5% of GDP in 1990 to 1.2% of GDP in 1999.

At the higher level, government recurrent allocations as a share of the Federal budget increased from 5% in 1990 to 22% in 1993 then fell to 16%in 1996 .

Why?

A sustainable financing arrangement must be developed if Nigeria is to regain the ground it has already lost and become a serious player in the new global economic, social and political order .
Financial efficiency is critical and could be achieved through the improvement of administrative and management practices rationalization and better realistic planning.

I hope this solve's some problems as regards Nigeria Educational system. Anwansedo .A. Friday
